2 Maccabees 3 & 5

There is an angel type that appears more as a human man, not having wings, yet a heavenly presence, otherworldly, beautiful, perfect. This week I read of several occasions they appeared.

1. The First Appearance – 2 Maccabees 3

The first appearance was to stop the pillaging of the temple treasury.

The first is mention of the horse, who is a divine creature, who ran fiercely, smiting the enemy with his forefeet. On him is a ‘terrible’ rider adorned with very fair covering, complete harness of gold.

Two additional young men appeared before him, notable in strength, excellent in beauty, and beautiful in apparel.

2. The Second Appearance – 2 Maccabees 5

The second appearance I read of was a battle apparition:

Horsemen running in the air, in cloth of gold, armed with lances, like a band of soldiers, troops of horsemen in array, encountering and running one against another, with shaking of shields, and multitude of pikes, and drawing of swords, and casting of darts, and glittering of golden ornaments, and harness of all sorts.

I Understand:

  1. Horses are also heavenly creatures.
  2. These ‘young men’ that are divine are a type of angel without wings doing God’s bidding.
  3. The 2nd one seems to show some of these wingless angels are following Satan and battling God’s own, and it is witnessed – this spiritual battle going on just above where humans are steeped in evil activities.
  4. I read about 80% of angels are created male. There is no reference to females like this appearing, sent from God.
  5. They exist even now. They continue the fight above the earth.

I feel we were meant to know about them and understand their presence, that they are fighting the battle with us, doing their part to help.
