Martin Luther King was a real man. He was a man of color, a man of God and a man for the people. He was the gentle strong voice that cried out for peace and brotherhood and left us a legacy of human kindness and dreams to live into.

‘I have a dream, that my four little children will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.’

‘In a sense we have come to our nation’s capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.’

When the ache becomes so strong, as it was for Dr. King nothing else is possible but to transform the world. The rolling stone of injustice and prejudice needed to stop and turn the other direction. Momentum built for this movement through the years and we now have a man of color leading our nation.

While traveling in India, I came across a statue of a great man, in the garden of statues of God’s and Goddess. His figure stout and robust, so unusual to see, be there plan as day was Dr Martin Luther King amidst the deities of this lovely meditation garden.

He touched the world and we honor him for his life and legacy.
