In my morning Bible study, I noticed something that I was aware of but had never fully connected the dots on – what it truly meant. Over and over in the stories of Jesus, He is very active, attentive, and busy – healing, teaching, and loving God’s children. Yet after, He retreats to a quiet place – a wilderness, a mountain, or a garden.

This struck me today as I am coming off a difficult few weeks, reminding me how important and precious my mornings of contemplation, Bible study, and prayer are. Every morning, I wake up sometime between 4:45 and 5:30 for an hour just to myself—an hour to connect with God’s Word, feel the Holy Spirit within me, and recenter myself for whatever the day has in store.

I have been focused on digging into whatever I am studying, staying very directed and on task, knowing that the kids could wake up at any moment and that the precious quiet will disappear quickly.

One realization I had was that while I did say a relatively short prayer at the end of my study each day, it occurred to me that I should – and will now – start each morning session with prayer. I also want to ensure that I am not only praying through my prayer list but also taking time to reflect, allowing God to speak to me in the silence – to heal me and restore my energy, body, and mind.
