Our spring in Texas is marked by avid birdsong, many rainstorms, and armadillos rooting around in the landscaping looking for yummy bugs.
We have had some very hot days already, and storms that seem to be more manmade – with intense flooding, strange multi-streamed lightning, and thunder that sounds like it might break the house apart.

Along with the heat and storms, I had to replace 2 of our home’s 3 air conditioners, and am waiting for roof repair – which will now need to be followed up with an electrician, as the moisture got into the wiring under the insulation.

Both kids get to attend summer care together, giving me longer workdays for the next 10 weeks. That is wonderful for me – I really do love working. It will also give me time to organize my garage workout space and Henry’s new big boy bedroom upstairs.

Each day I am drawn to organize and clear away something. I wonder what I can let go of. What have I or the kids not used lately that is now just taking up space?
We have planted one of our 3 planter boxes and hope to make more headway on gardening for food as the days progress.

Spring is also a time to slim and trim down for those many pool days – and perhaps a few days at the beach, on the coast or down on Padre Island. After following (imperfectly) a protein diet, I have added dry brushing and massage with a firming oil to my routine. My goal is a trim waistline, firm thighs, and a smile on my face as I take my leisurely morning strolls through the neighborhood.

I think spring can trigger ownership: how do I want to own my body, my life, and the possessions I have? And what is no longer mine – what can I lighten up, let go of, and feel a little bit more free to be me?

What is spring to you?
