When you are in a traumatic experience, your fuel and mind go to survival. All your actions are dictated by what will help me to survive this. How can I self-preserve? You may not sleep for days or weeks, eat erratically and go for high caloric foods when you do grab a bite. A trauma might drive you to look again and again at the trauma, news, social media, or movies that have a great deal of trauma in them. I know this because I am working towards stabilizing from the trauma we have recently gone through and reaching for the things I know reassure my body and being that I am and will continue to be safe.
How to get back in the saddle of self-love and self-care after going through a trauma
- Be gentle with yourself and don’t expect to return to how you were immediately following the event or circumstance. Backing off perfect expectations on how things should be to what can help me right now to feel better knowing I will improve everyday, a bit at a time, makes a hug difference in how fast you can come back.
- Get the ground underneath you once more. For us that is 2 fold, we are in a temporary home for 6 weeks. This is a safe place to breath clean air and enjoy family. The 2nd part of that is to use the meditation grounding technique to pull yourself back in your body. This isn’t as easy as it sounds, you need to shut down the fight or flight autopilot and get back in charge of yourself and your daily experience. I did this in multiple steps. Got an apartment, got a leased car, got Adelia in preschool days, got a massage, started back teaching, got my hair done, got a facial…pick up favorite makeup and perfume…yes this feels pretty good I do indeed feel grounded in my body.
- Plan for and feel into a happy life. Plan the next day, week, month and use your imagination to dwell on a delightful future filled with joy. I had heard God on Sunday morning when I had asked where should I live, answer simply visualize, imagine focus on what you want. The next day getting a massage I heard focus on how you want to feel. And in class that afternoon I heard Archangel Gabriel say when I was worried about not helping the 47 reconstituted spirits ++ he said you are all good with us, focus on yourself we’ll be here when you’re ready…he acknowledge how hard it is to be in a human body and go through a trauma lie a fire evacuation.
- The theme here is when you are in distress, focus on the good feelings and happy future you want. I started my 21 day wealth program yesterday which is a great guide towards manifesting a wonderful life. Take the expectations of doing for others temporarily down to a minimum. In other words, put your own oxygen mask on first, once you are settled back in your body, you are much more equipped to continue to do the work you came to do.
I sincerely wish you a joyous peaceful fun filled life. Living in these times can sometimes produce the polar opposite. Live into Joy and make room to be imperfect and get more self care when things are not seemingly in grace and ease.
I also want to acknowledge; we don’t know the plan for us. We may want to know, or think we know, but let’s face it life is a DARING adventure… best to be prepared, and stay hopeful for a fantastic future!
