I just finished teaching the pandemic course and was drawn to open my Bible and read what God has to say to me in this moment.
Psalm 120 in my distress I called to the Lord and he heard me deliver my soul oh Lord from lying lips and from deceitful tongue who is me that well in me check that I dwelt among the Meshack of Kadar my soul shall be well too long with one who hates peace. I am for peace but when I speak, they are for war.
Psalm 121 I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help. My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil. He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in, from this time forth and forevermore
Immediately there was an acknowledgment that God has heard our cries for help and he is constant in his unending protection and love.
The scripture also acknowledges ‘lying lips.’ So we’ve really been looking at people who are in a position to influence the population, saying untrue things and manipulating people into doing things that cause harm to themselves and others.
I am called to let my eyes rest on the line that says: ‘I have dwelt too long among those who hate peace, I am for peace.
Yes, this is so true for all of us; we seek love and kindness, honor and cherishing among the peoples of this earthly realm. We seek to unite, not divide, to understand and support and cherish those who share this earthly realm.
In my going out in the world and in my staying in my safe space… I seek you… I seek the God of comfort, the God of calm, the God of peace.
God will preserve our soul and will preserve us wherever we are. Therefore, we need to pray, calling out to God in certainty and in faith, knowing that this is true and these promises will be fulfilled.
