How to Pray Effectively
When doing an interview, I am often called on to recount the circumstances of my miraculous healing. I tell the story of illness, pain, and suffering—of losing my ability to walk and of the multiple cancers I experienced on that journey. Then there is the miraculous day when I head into my garden and, in prayer and meditation, sing God’s name and specifically ask God for the gift of either taking me or making me well; God revealed His plan to me for me, and a miracle takes place.
I am often asked, Julie, how do I pray? Here are some direct instructions that are intuitive to me and are definitely part of praying effectively:
- Enter a quiet place and focus all your attention inward. Praying in the same location is one nice way to practice, on a daily basis, a discipline of prayer. But be flexible – you can pray anywhere and be effective. Praying at the same time may also be helpful.
- Prayer is not you giving God your laundry list of needs, wants, and desires; it is a dialogue that develops a relationship with God. In that, just like in a family relationship, praise and appreciation should be part of the conversation. It energizes more marvelous and wonderful energies and sets a strong vibratory tone.
- Close your eyes and stop observing anything else but your heart to God. The Holy Spirit communes with your heart; He is the Spirit of truth. In that, pulling in also stops listening to outer sounds and just attentively listens to the stirrings of your heart.
