Yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice sparrows at the window, seemingly trying to get into the office during class. Again this morning, as I prepared for class, 4 sparrows were very active in the bush by my office window, seemingly looking at me and chirping.

Maria Laura: I heard the birds yesterday during class, and I was going to mention about them.

Lauri: I had a sparrow land on my door screen the other day.

It was a lovely little connection. What first came to mind was the old hymn His Eye Is on the Sparrow.

His Eye Is on the Sparrow

Why should I feel discouraged?
Why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart be lonely
And long for heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion?
My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

CHORUS

I sing because I’m happy—
I sing because I’m free—
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

I love how nature responds to God’s nudgings to deliver messages from heaven to us, small, loving, maybe to another insignificant, but very real and a beautiful connection with the Creator.

And this verse from Matthew 10:29, reminding us we are never forgotten, God knows all our cares. We are not alone in this journey.

Matthew 10:29

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.

And

Jeremiah 1:5

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”

And

Jeremiah 29:11

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

A lovely little reminder from the sparrows, of God’s presence, constancy, and mercy.
